Amazingly, I Remain a Hopeless Romantic

I like this Friday Five. I tend to obsess on Bad Shit from the Past and this is about Good Shit from the Past. Yeah. : P

(Ed. note: Written at age 28.5, 4 days before the South Carolina Bar Examination. Certain answers will be skewed.)

1. If you could go back and relive one moment or day from your life, without changing anything, what would you re-experience?

I can think of several:

Cards at the kitchen table with either grandma and other family folk around.

Wiener freakin' Schnitzel in Vienna, age 10.

Paul McCartney with my dad (May 7, 1993).

Marshall Fields, the Water Tower one, with my mom.

Walks with Mom.

The interviews for my senior thesis with my grandparents.

The first date with my boyfriend-slash-life partner (this would have been roughly October, 1994, good God I am old).

The more recent first date with my boyfriend-slash-life partner (Thanksgiving 2003).

The Millenial New Year's Eve, Chicago.

My first Pride Parade (Boston 2002).

NAMES Project Candlelight March, DC (Spring Break 1997)--my first demo.

2. If you could witness a moment in history, again without changing anything, what would you want to see?

I'm not sure if this is supposed to be within my lifetime or what. If I may venture earlier than my lifetime, I would say The Beatles' first Ed Sullivan appearance.

From my lifetime, I'd say the day the Goodridge decision came out, although I found out about it rather unceremoniously (thank you Internet Explorer), and I never made it to City Hall for any of the celebrating.

3. If you could talk to a younger version of yourself, what age would you visit and what message would you give?

High School, pretty much all of it: You Will Be Okay. It Is Okay to Be Queer or Hetero or Whatever the Hell You Are. Your Parents Are Insane.

During College: It Is Okay, and Sometimes Preferable, to Be Single.

During Law School: Study Harder, Goddamnit, Someday You Will Have to Take a Bar Exam.

4. If you could choose one moment that would be guaranteed to happen in your future, what would it be and when would it happen?

Passing the bar and getting sworn in.
Like, soon.

5. Pretend you left a time capsule for yourself 5, 10, 15, 20 or more years ago. You just opened it. What three things from your past are you now holding and what age were you when you buried them?

Everything I can think of is a romantic memento, and most of them date back to my teens.

woogie - woo
